 VoIP (English Voice over IP; IP-telephony) - system that provides the transfer of voice signals over the Internet or any other IP-networks. The signal on the communication channel is transferred in digital form, and usually before converting (compressed) in order to remove redundancy.
Short for IP-telephony refers to technology that allows use of IP-network as a means of organizing and conducting international and long distance telephone calls and send faxes in real time. Now IP-telephony, there are two main ways of transmission of voice packets in IP-network: public via the Internet and using the dedicated channels. In the first case, bandwidth is directly dependent on the load of IP-network package containing data, voice, graphics, etc., hence the delay in passing packages may vary. When using dedicated channels exclusively for the voice packets can be guaranteed a fixed (or nearly fixed) speed.
